Evaluation.

WEDNESDAY 29TH MAY 2013

Overall, i enjoyed this project yet which we had more time to collect more styling and clothing. I was really happy with my outcomes from the classic shoot and think they are really strong as the location and styling compliment each other well. however the indian theme shoot lacked in comparison. i feel i should have co-ordinated the make up with much lighter tones to pick up the vibrancy of location and styling when on an outdoor shoot, as i have to remember there is only natural light surrounding. also if i were to do different i would perhaps do the indian shoot in a more appropriate location, perhaps a beach?

I enjoyed looking into more designers and widening my knowledge, as well as learning the basics of fashion from lectures previous etc.

a downside i feel on my outcomes, was the coloured tones of how my final A3 prints came out, the toning came out very bright and some parts are over exposed on my models body, taking away detail even though i set the colours on photoshop to the correct tones. yet, this is lesson learnt to perhaps test prints out before hand.

Final Photographs.

WEDNESDAY 29TH MAY 2013

for my classic photoshoot i was really impressed with the outcomes, there were many strong shots. i chose this particular image as i felt it stood out when i was shooting as well as when editing, i think the composition is really complimentary.

MUA; Devan - Rose Smith
Model; Katie Gill

the indian shoot however, did not compliment the location as much as the classic, also i felt the photos were not as strong, however i did really like the composition of this image but perhaps needed more detail in the face etc to make it stand out as it mainly the neon orange which does this.

Photoshoot.

SATURDAY 25TH MAY 2013

after all the preparation the day arrived of the photoshoot with the weather being better then it hoped after it pouring down with the yesterday! surprisingly everything ran smoothly for the shoot, with hair and make-up as well as the models looking amaze. if i had to improve on one thing, i probably would have lighten up the indian make up more as from afar i felt it looked to dark when editing.

Photoshoot Prep.

FRIDAY 24TH MAY 2013

LOCATION

for the location scene for my photoshoot i have decided to set it in a grassy meadow field, covered in daisys as it works in theme with my classic image. i am doing it locally and depended on the sunny weather. with the background being sunny and bright it will compliment the 'spring summer' look the collection represents.

STYLING

for my classic photoshoot, i am simply using a nautical striped top and red tartan skirt from topshop teamed with black patent DM's. for accessories  i will simply add a daisy floral crown and rings aswell as some round tortoise shell sunglasses.

for my indian shoot, i am going to add a black high waisted bikini underneath and wrap round and pin in a draped dress style a piece of neon orange fabric, cinched in with a black belt round the waist. this bright colour should compliment the models skin perfectly. i will then accessorize with lots of gold rings and bracelets aswell as a dark turban which i shall attach a earring to, too give more of an indian ethnic feel.

MAKE-UP

the classic shoot will be completely natuaral as i want my model to represent jean paul gaultier in the pieree de gilles design. the models hair will also be slick back like a mans with her floral crown placed on top. simple as the concentration will be on the outfit.

the indian shoot will consist of dark eyebrows and make up aswell as bright lipstick. the models hair will be natural and wavy. then to remind of the s/s 13 jpg couture collection, i will have the models hands and feet painted blue.

Fashion Environment Idea Development.

SUNDAY 19TH MAY 2013

after researching the latest collections and also pierre de gilles i have come up with a concept of having one photoshoot based around the classic ideas of jpg, he's stereotypical look with a natural blonde model, representing gaultier himself and also similar to his ready to wear collection. then for the other photoshoot (as we have to do two outfit shoots) i will do one inspired by Indian themes, and also those of pierre de gilles regarding the extreme make up and over excessive accessories. this will create two juxtaposing styles and model looks but i will shoot in the same location so they have some similarity when being paired next to each other. this also connects with jpg's latest collections for s/s.

Pierre De Gilles.

THURSDAY 16TH MAY 2013

after gaultiers indian influence for his latest collection i was advised to look into pierre de gilles and how he's over dramatic and humourous side of similar of those to jpg. after looking over various books, i identified pierre de gilles work is very over the top yet very intrested to look at. he gets pieces and then replicats them with a humourous side, something which i am looking into for my photoshoot. there is pieces of the french artists i have picked out that have really inspired me for styling and direction.

the first two images are very indian influenced, with the styling etc and the last image which was originally made for gaultier is something i would like to recreate with my images, perhaps having daisy's for the theme.

JPG; Haute Couture S/S 2013.

WEDNESDAY 10TH MAY 2013

the haute couture spring summer collection for the jean paul gaultier fashion house was incredibly influenced by India  through the powerful jewel colours, traditional painted feet and patterns. the catwalk location and settings etc were surrounded with moroon lighting and flowing sheers of fabrics aswell tradional inidan music. the catwalk was also ended with 4 young indian girls presenting the stage with laughter and charm.

JPG; Ready-to-Wear S/S 2013

MONDAY 8TH MAY 2013

gaultiers spring summer collection, i think was one of the best collections he has ever done! the collection is fascinating as it collaborates all of his most famous collections over the years and impressions of all the most iconic stars he has designed for! he has took he's old designs and revamped them with new twists in material and cutting etc but as fans you can still clearly identify the classic outfits.

grace jones, bowie, boy george and madonna are just a few to name. this type of revamp for his classic looks and heritage gives me inspiration for my photoshoot, such as styling something iconic and instantly recognizable for gaultier.

JPG Hotline.

MONDAY 8TH MAY 2013

when always researching designers I always download the latest apps, blogs, twitter, instagram and facebook accounts as these are always the latest up to date information from the designers or house themselves. so when browsing for jean paul gaultier app i came across the latest from the JPG team, called 'hotline' which is an interactive app which 'breaks the ice between you and your fantasy lover'. you can access the app between your computer or your smartphone. in a nutshell the app is an interactive 'game' in which you talk, 'caress' and 'blow' your male or female companion. although there was no knowledge of he's latest collection etc this just supports the knowledge of JPG's cheeky sexual influence side.

JPG.

FRIDAY 3RD MAY 2013

before basing a photoshoot around the almighty jean paul gaultier i done some background research into the designer and thought i would share some of the facts i found. short n sweet.

HIS LABEL STARTED IN 1978

INFLUENCED BY GLOBAL COSTUME, BOTH OLD AND NEW, SUCH AS THAT WORN BY LONDON'S PUNKS.

SEXUAL AMBIGUITY HAS ALSO BEEN AN ENDURING THEME.

GAULTIER'S WHOLE STYLE IS A HUMOROUS, ECLECTIC CHALLENGE TO THE FRENCH ESTABLISHMENT.

INSTANTLY RECOGNIZABLE FOR HIS SAILOR COMBINATION DUE TO THE SUCCESSFUL 'LE MALE' FRAGRANCE.

ALSO WELL KNOWN FOR HIS DESIGN OF THE CONE SHAPE BRA FOR MADONNA IN THE EIGHTIES, WHICH HAS NOW BECOME A SYMBOLISATION FOR THE DECADE.

from these few points, this has made me acknowledge certain areas i should concentrate on, such as gaultiers mix of old and new aswell as always acknowledging his roots. also mockery and humour are always involved in his shoots, i shall most probably incorporate both fashion forward and mock influence pictures in my shoot.

Fashion Environment + JPG

THURSDAY 2ND MAY 2013

I have been off the blogasphere for a few months now due to overload of uni work! So to come to a fair decisions i have decided to share my recent work as well as blog! #winner.
One of the most recent projects for FMP, Year 1, would be our fashion environment involving concentration on iconic designers (i did do a post about it a couple of months back). the brief was too recreate or be inspired by one of our designers for a photoshoot. I had the famous four of eighties Parisian designers; Karl Lagerfeld, Martine Sitbon, Christian Lacroix and Jean Paul Gaultier. After researching their most recent collections and past, I finally settled on JPG to base my shoot around as I felt he's collections had the most energy and correspondence in his clothing.

To find out more information on the designers, check out this prezi i made about them;

THURSDAY 7TH FEBRUARY 2013

There back! Combining two of this seasons hottest trends is the monochrome scrunchie. Black & White will forever be in, but the trending of the olympics and the eighties rework we now see the scrunchie back in lifes. One to watch out for is spots, the pattern keeps appearing oddly in places, looks like its working its way into our wardrobes.

Seventies Glam Photoshoot + Juliette's Thread

THURSDAY 7TH FEBRUARY 2013

I admit it, i have been off the blogasphere for a couple of weeks now and this is due to all the work we are getting chucked at us from uni. However, to keep you in the loop i thought i would show you what i've been up to! for our fashion imaging and styling project we have been given a historical sub-project to shoot and style and as you might know (from my previous posts) i was given the glam era of the seventies. yet this time i have shot in the studio we have access to at uni. but the most exciting part was working with a lovely lady called Juliette who runs her own vintage clothing stalls. We have worked together to produce some photographs for my project and her advertisement. 'Juliette's Thread' masters in reworking and modernising vintage clothing. so you still have the the vintage feel and patterns with a more modern twist which works really well and is very hard to resist! check out her facebook page... http://www.facebook.com/JuliettesThread for her latest reworks and stalls.   a sneak peek...

The Eighties Reinvention.

MONDAY 7TH JANUARY 2013
                         EIGHTIES FASHION

The eighties. Extravagant, Egotistical and electrical.
The decade that gave us the moonwalk, Pacman, E.T and the Rubik's cube. It was a complete techno boom with computers, boom boxes and videos at the dispense for normal folk.
the eighties saw the cold war end, the Berlin wall fall and the space shuttle rise. the years were full of celebration and the fashion trends reflected these culture changes dramatically. as after the depressing years of Berlin and other global epidemics, bright colours, structured shapes and wild hair were forcing there way through for all ages, classes and genders. the bright colours were followed by the connotation of the party lifestyle that the eighties had set, with techno, house, pop and hip-hop all being introduced and influctuated with the use of boom boxes, tape players and MTV.
Music set the trend for the generation, with MJ in leathers THAT and one glove, Madonna in lace, puff ball skirts, distressed denim and Freddie Mecury with a mostache, mini skirt and pale pink polo neck. Other trends included shoulder pads, shell suits, neon, colour clashing, material mixing, headbands, high tops and a heap of jewellery. leggings, leg warmers and denim jackets where also key pieces. with many of these items reinventing themselves ready for s/s 13.
On the other end of the spectrum, there was the use of eighties power dressing adopted by some of our most famous female figures such as Margret Thatcher and Princess Di. The use of structured suits reflected the empowerment to women and how females can achieve more and succeed after the supporting years of the 60's and 70's. However there was also an axiety among high fashion brands as employment decreased dramatically in the UK, street style appeared even more popular with working class kids ripping there jeans and t-shirts to create and follow the latest trends and icons.
this intoxicating mix full of risk takers, trend setters and skin scrapers couldn't be complete without the most important piece...the hair! with a vibrant range to choose from, including the perm, the mullet, the jheri curl and the side pony with a dash of crimping.
With retro vintage making a racing come back in to London street style and also across the pond, these looks are becoming more popular and noticeable in the high street and the catwalk after a bubble up sensation. for s/s 2013 trend setting appearances are distressed and dip dyed denim, stacks of jewellery being layered and of course Neon! we are seeing a quick peek into the summer with hints of neon jewellery mainly being the lime green and pink appearing. this can be seen in stores such as Topshop and H&M on the high street and an impression for the upcoming catwalk shows in feb.

FRIDAY 4TH JANUARY 2013

I have just spotted these amazing vintage aztec shorts from the eighties on ebay! Once back at Uni we have another decade styling photoshoot to do and this time round I was given eighties which is very flexible and I really want to push my skills on this one. Either way I think these shorts would be perfect for my shoot, being tucked in and sinched at the waist to get the detail of the american logo. Also I'd probably keep these for myself (because they are such a bargain!) and whack them out in the summer with some cute thrilly ankle socks and platform trainers.
p.s the seller 'thrifty.beatnik' has some amazingggg vintage 70's/80's/90's clothing to sell via ebay from all sizes and prices if you are looking for something similar!
